About the Program

Picture
Sap must be collected from the tapped trees often twice a day!
  • This program is offered by the Codorus State Park Environmental Educational Specialist, and is FREE to the public!
  • Programs are held outdoors and include a short walk.  Be sure to dress for the weather and slippery conditions!
  • Maple sugaring is dependent on when the sap decides to run!  Weather is a big factor to when that will happen.
  • Syrup may be available for purchase at the time of the program.  Supplies limited.

Picture
Sap is being added to the evaporator where water is cooked off.
Picture
The sap needs to stay at boiling point to cook off properly.
Picture
When the color starts to change, you know the syrup is forming.

Picture
The sap must be filtered at two different times during the cooking process.
Picture
The syrup is then ready to be bottled for sale.
