Early Days

The Friends of Codorus State Park started in early 2006, at the request of the then park manager, Warren Werntz who wanted "a few extra pair of hands...about 50, to donate time and sweat to help keep up the park, and also raise some funds for the park."  We are now a 300 member strong group of passionate people working together to make Codorus State Park a wonderful outdoor destination.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to support the park managers and staff with our volunteer time and with funds raised from member-led projects and events in the park.  Our donations help the park management to fill in the gaps where needed to improve the park.

Our Accomplishments

  • Removed hundreds of hazardous trees in the campground and processed the wood to be sold to campers at our Outpost Camp Store located near campground Contact Station.
  • Manage the Outpost Camp Store throughout the camping season selling firewood, ice, and many other items needed by the campers.
  • Cleared innumerable invasive plant species throughout the park.
  • Engage and entertain thousands of children and their families and friends each year at our Easter Egg Hunts, Codorus Trick or Treat and Breakfast with Santa events.
  • Assisted with park educational programs and activities throughout the park season, and highlight them in our Experience Codorus Outdoors event.
  • Funded the purchase of equipment and storage for the kayak program, and archery equipment for the archery summer camp.
  • Initiated a recycling program within the campground.
  • Donated and repaired a pontoon boat for educational programs on the lake.
